LATEST NEWS: Member Meeting on Saturday 27 September a great success

The Member meeting on Saturday 27 September, at Kaye Rowe Nursery School – followed by a site visit for attendees, especially those interested in construction – was a great success. We launched our new website, presented initial plans for the garden design, and made a grand total of £111.38. A fantastic sum for the Forest Gate Community Garden fund

The Forest Gate Community Garden's youngest fans have great fun investigating the wildlife at our site visit on Saturday 27 September and posing against the blue hoardings that currently mark out the 'front door' at 136 Earlham Grove

Thanks to everyone who came, helped out on the day, baked and brought cakes, donated prizes to the tombola and generally offered support.

A big thank you to Kaye Rowe Nursery School and staff for hosting, to whom we donated £20 for their efforts and loan of equipment.

Also Lloyd Jeans for opening the meeting; Myanah Saunders for a concise and enlightening update – and for reminding us what a great team we are; Sonya Patel Ellis for concept, design and copy for the website and blog; Hugh Barnard for providing vital technical expertise in getting the website up and running; and Jane McCarthy and Lisa Eller, respectively, for producing and presenting the initial design plans.

For those who didn't manage to attend the website is now live at www.forestgate-community-garden.org.uk with a direct link to the 136 Earlham Grove blog.

Monies raised included:
  • £52.30 from refreshments including many wonderful cakes
  • £32.00 from the Tombola
  • £47.08 from Membership fees and donations from both the WI fete (15 new members) and Kay Rowe (6)

Almost everyone who came wended their way over to the Forest Gate Community Garden site at 136 Earlham Grove, and again commented on how 'magical' the site is. There may now also be a core Construction Group to include Les, Rob Ken and Rod. Construction will be led by Lisa Eller of our Planning and Design Team, until someone else is able to take over the role.

We are now looking forward to more forthcoming events including the Fun Palace on Saturday 4 October and the Big Draw 'Create a Swarm' led by local artist Eleanor Pearce on Saturday 11 October. Look out for more posts on those soon.
